FORT WORTH, Texas (August 10, 2017) – Fort Worth’s newest nonprofit restaurant, Taste Community Restaurant, has announced a change in the opening date of its pay-what-you-can restaurant located at 1200 S. Main Street. Taste Community Restaurant will now open on Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 for lunch from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
“The restaurant is nearly complete, but we are waiting for new infrastructure from Oncor to support our electrical power needs. It’s not what we hoped for. But as God reveals more and more to us, we’re realizing, ‘it’s something much better’.” says founder Jeff Williams.
Taste Project is a nonprofit organization designed to help feed, educate, and serve the community so that everyone may ‘taste and see the Lord is good.’ Psalm 34:8.
Taste Project is creating the only sustainable solution to end hunger in Fort Worth. Taste’s solution is a fresh and healthy pay-what-you-can restaurant where everyone in the community, regardless of financial means, can enjoy a healthy, high quality meal, made from seasonal ingredients from the surrounding area. The menu will have no prices. Patrons are simply asked to:
- pay what you can afford;
- pay what you would typically pay; or
- pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra.
“80% of our staff will be volunteers. We are using the additional time to create a more positive experience for our Taste Buds, our term for our volunteers, who will be the lifeline of Taste Project and Taste Community Restaurant.” said Jeff Williams.
Taste Project encourages all Fort Worth residents to become a part of the solution to end hunger by volunteering. The organization is looking for volunteers who can greet guests, wait and bus tables, and prepare and cook meals. No experience is needed; and all training will be provided. You can sign up for a 3 hour shift at www.tasteproject.org/getinvolved.

About Taste Project
Taste Project (www.tasteproject.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit established simply to feed people one community at a time. One of every six Americans faces the reality that they may not be able to provide for their next meal. There are programs in place that help; however, in Tarrant County, 36 percent of this food insecure population live above the poverty level and receive no government help. Our first project, a non-profit restaurant, will focus on healthy, quality meals made from local ingredients. Our menu will have no prices. This is a give and take concept. We ask customers to do one of the following: 1) pay what you can afford 2) pay what you would typically pay or 3) pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra.
